Franz Jozeph > Queenstown

On the road again > We got an early start on the road, first stopping at Fox Glacier for some photos of Lake Matheson, often called the ‘mirror lake‘ for it’s frequent reflections of the southern alps that dominate the skyline. No such luck today. But Alan was able to book us into a Queenstown hostel during the pitstop. We then turned inland via Haast and Makarora. The scenery soon changed from dense forrests to vast plateaus as we entered the Central Otago region. There was time for a few stops including a photo of Lake Hawea, a fruit stand for some Fejoas, and to watch one of our passengers take the jump at inventor AJ Hacket’s bungee bridge - the location of the world’s first bungee jump.
