After leaving Tekapo we travelled over Burkes Pass through Mackenzie Country and the foothills of the Southern Alps. Our scenery changed dramatically when the bus entered the Canturbury plains, a huge contrast from alpine crossings to the country's largest flat area. We got off the bus in Christchurch in absolutely pouring rain and rolled our bags across a park to an independent hostel.
