We set up camp in the middle of the national park in a secluded camping ground where only one other man was camping.
As usual in Australia, we saw a huge amount of wildlife - Chris was excited to find around ten kangaroos around the tent when he emerged for his morning coffee. They were just lazing in the morning sun, catching their last few winks before the sun got too strong.
The funniest animal to ever run away from our car - these
emus caused a lot of giggles as they jogged out of the way!

Iulia cooked us a wonderful lamb stew over the
campfire - we were certainly well fed on this roadtrip!
This time last year, on 'Black Saturday', Australia saw it's worst ever bush fires since the first settlers came. Over 140 people died and this weekend was the one year anniversary. The closest town to the national park we were staying at had fallen victim earlier, in 2006. It had now been rebuilt but we could see evidence of charring on the trees in the national park. There were a number of documentaries on the telly this week and also a rememberence wall in the town we visited. Whole towns were destroyed; it was horrifying for the people who lived in these areas, watching, helpless as the fires destroyed their homes and towns.
