Even from the window on the plane I could tell that Laos was special. I've never seen untouched landscapes that go on for so long. The lush, green mountain ranges seemed to go on for ever without any sign of human interference.
Even when flying over the Alps in Europe, it's possible to see small villages and towns interspersed amongst the peaks. Not with Laos. If you've ever flown over the Fjords in Norway, what you see is a similar scene of green and untouched nature yet here in Laos, the natural landscape is uninterrupted for so much longer.
As we flew in closer to Luang Prabang, tiny hamlets of around fifteen huts started to become visible but with no road leading to them, they still remained as tiny specks of yellow amongst the green, mountainous jungle.
We were excited to spend time getting to know this country whose second largest city, on first sight, seemed more like a small town!
